Hi there 👋 ! Today, whether the dislike for the character was almost instant or gradually…we will be indulging you with five female book characters that we are not really fond off.
In no particular order – here are our
[We put links to the Goodreads profile of the books mentioned down below]
Beatrice Prior (aka. Tris) from Divergent series by Veronica Roth
We love the divergent world, but for us Tris is supposed to represent a balance of truth, kindness, selflessness, intelligence and bravery. Yet in a way we could relate more with other characters who were not “divergent”. In the first and second book she was bearable, even relatable at points. But in the final installment she seemed distant to us, her character development felt messed for us. Perhaps this is due to how fast her life was going. For now we are done making excuses for her. We just don’t really like her. Sorry🤷.
Eadlyn Schreave from The Heir #4 (The Selection series) by Kiera Cass
Now we thought we disliked America Singer, but we came across her daughter Eadlyn
(how do you even pronouncethat??). Now we think that Kiera Cass was trying to portray a strong, independent female protagonist…unfortunately Eadlyn came across as a self-centered individual. Maybe we disliked her because she randomly popped up in the series when we just got used to the idea of America being a queen (is this a spoiler? Whoops…). Perhaps if we bothered to continue the book we may have seen development…but eh, oh well
Where to begin… we had high hope for this individual. She had cool powers. She had cool encounters etc. And yet we felt so disconnected with her. She felt somewhat two-dimensional. Maybe in the later installments she goes through a huge change in character that makes her more likeable but to us, Mare was an opportunity lost.
Clary Fairchild from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
Clary is one of those characters who are just soooo nice that we just think “is she even real?’. Maybe we are just hard to please but Clary felt like an outsider in her own series. We connected more with the side characters. That being said, Clary is probably the least dislikable for us on this list.
Teresa from The Maze Runner series by James Dashner
We didn’t really like Teresa. Everything she seemed to do in the books always seemed to irritate us. Maybe it is because she could easily betray her friends for what she believed was the greater good. Teresa in her own right was probably the most realistic character. Perhaps the author intended her to be disliked…
Well, what do you guys think? Do you agree with us or have other dislikable (female) characters that we haven’t mentioned?
